If you let them, they'll make you think you are winning when you're not. That also includes that great corporation you work for (no matter WHERE you work), whether it's McDonald's or Macy's or Wall Street's finest! Their main concern is their bottom line and they're willing to exploit you and your desires to get there.
For example, I worked in a store, I was very loyal to the company having been there since 1989 (off and on) and I enjoyed my co-workers company very much most of them I'd know for around 10 years or more.

When retail took a nose dive, around 2010, it was every man for himself and it hasn't turned itself around yet. It's now at the point where employees are suffering with their paychecks. I know people who have a biweekly check totaling $40 USD, and $57 USD (the 57 is mine). No company should be paying that pithy amount. No one can survive on that! Then they schedule all "willy nilly" (all over the clock) so you can't get another job because they want you to be available for anytime they need to schedule you.
The way I see it, if a company can only offer you that pity amount of hours, they should lay you off and let you collect unemployment! They can always rehire you back (or call you) when more hours become available.
But that would mess up their accounting. It's better for them to have more employees on the books because the government will compensate them for the lack of hours and money lost. They could also schedule employees part time and not have to give retirement benefits.
They follow their green, not your dream.
The original dream of the corporation usually doesn't survive past the first three generations. It becomes a fight for survival, theirs, not yours! and the employee usually suffers for it in wages and lack of hours of work.
This retail era is the worst that I've ever seen! You can feel the tension in the stores when you go in. The employees are overworked and unhappy. There aren't enough people around to help you on the salesfloor when you need it. Working their is worse that shopping there. They promote false leaders to keep people from quitting. The promotion doesn't give the promotee a higher wage, instead they get to have a one hour lunch instead of a half hour lunch like the peon workers, and they get to control their coworkers ASSignments.
Then, if they don't do well at their new assignment, they usually are "let go" or they get very low hours, so low that they'd rather quit and they do.
Once again, this is the green that the company is following, not the original founder's dream, or their employee's dream.
The bottom line is, decide if your job is still supporting your needs? If not, start making a list of businesses you can start for yourself.
My last bi weekly check was 57 US dollars!!!!
When I realized that my last bi weekly check was 57 US dollars, I needed to re-evaluate my wage earning priorities. I'm really appalled that there are businesses out there that (corporations I should say) that condone this pity wage practice. If anyone wants the name of this company, contact me on this blog and I'll be more than happy to tell you.
Remember your green, should be your first priority. We are not using the barter system anymore, we use money, real money. Don't settle for less than a sustainable wage. I'm ending this post here but it's not the last I'll write about this subject. AND
